Isaac Lanigan, National Merit Semifinalist

National Merit Semifinalist Isaac Cole Lanigan keeps busy at Brooke as an officer of SkillsUSA, Art Club, and 4-H Teen Leaders, and a member of FBLA. He’s participated in Quiz Bowl, the Weirton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program, and serves as a Bruin Leader. Athletically, Isaac is a tennis letterman and a former member of the golf team. On Friday nights, you can find him in the student section, loudly cheering the Bruins on. This fall, he’s also representing his classmates on Homecoming Court.
When he’s not leading or cheering other on, you might find Isaac diving into advanced math books or videos “for fun.” He and his twin brother also run a small business crafting and selling rings made from silverware - proof that he can bend both numbers and metal to his will.
Through the Brooke Collegiate Academy partnership, Isaac has taken many courses at Bethany College, earning a spot on the President’s List and joining the Math and Computer Science Club. At Brooke, he has earned academic pins, membership in the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, yearly placements at County and State Math Field Day, and recognition from the College Board with both the School Award and the National Rural and Small Town Award. He has also represented Brooke at HOBY (state and national) and the WV Governor’s Honors Academy.
After graduation, Isaac plans to pursue a degree in Physics or Aerospace, where his love of math and science can truly take flight.
His advice to underclassmen: “Live life to the fullest. Don’t leave any opportunities or regrets behind. Make the best of everything and have fun.”
