BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. — Brooke County Schools will celebrate Attendance Awareness Week from October 5–9 with a county-wide spirit week designed to remind students and families that being present, on time, and ready to learn is an important part of student success.
Throughout the week, students and staff will participate in a different themed day that connects school attendance with positive habits, responsibility, and preparation for the future.
The celebration will begin Monday with Attendance Hero Day, when students are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero shirt or superhero colors. The theme, “Here, ready, and on time!” highlights the idea that simply showing up each day is something worth celebrating.
On Tuesday, students will be Crazy About Attendance by wearing crazy socks or mismatched shoes. Wednesday will feature Wake Up & Show Up PJ Day, encouraging students to wear school-appropriate pajamas while reinforcing the importance of developing a strong morning routine.
Thursday’s Dress for Success Day will give students an opportunity to think about the future. Students may wear professional attire or dress as someone representing a career they may want to pursue someday. The message behind the day is simple: school is one of the starting points for reaching future goals.
The week will conclude Friday with Hats Off to Great Attendance Day. Students may wear their favorite hats as Brooke County Schools celebrates a full week of showing up, working hard, and making attendance a priority.
While the spirit days add plenty of fun, Attendance Awareness Week carries an important message for families. Every school day provides students with opportunities to learn new skills, build relationships, participate in classroom experiences, and develop the routines that support long-term success. Regular attendance also helps students stay connected to their classmates, teachers, and school community.
Brooke County Schools encourages families to help students establish consistent bedtime and morning routines, arrive at school on time, and make attendance a priority whenever students are healthy enough to attend.
Throughout Attendance Awareness Week, students across the county will be reminded that every day in school matters—and every day is another opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
Be here. Be ready. Be a Bruin! 💚💛
