A message from the CITY OF WEIRTON YOUTH COUNCIL
The City of Weirton will be accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Weirton Youth Council (WYC). This program provides our youth a means to communicate directly to the Mayor and City Council to learn about City policies, procedures, and governmental workings. The Weirton Youth Council provides an opportunity to advise the Mayor and City Council on issues and concerns facing our youth today. Students will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through community engagement activities and will be advocates for youth in community matters. The WYC will participate in community service projects.
The program is open to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students who reside in the City of Weirton, including those enrolled in private schools and homeschool programs. The student must maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0. WYC members must attend regularly scheduled monthly meetings and assist in community projects. Transportation arrangements to and from the meetings are the responsibility of the student/guardian. Hours at all activities and meetings will be logged as volunteer hours.
Applications are available on the City of Weirton website and Facebook page, as well as via email to bbrock@cityofweirton.com. Applications can be mailed to the Weirton City Building, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV, 26062 - Attention City Manager/Mayor Office OR emailed to bbrock@cityofweirton.com. Applications must be received by Friday, September 26, 2025.
Applications, with names redacted, will then be reviewed by the WYC Committee, who will determine those accepted into the 2025-2026 Weirton Youth Council. If your child is selected, you will receive communication no later than Friday, October 3, 2025.

Congratulations Sophia! The Brooke Middle School cross country teams competed in the Martins Ferry Invitational earlier this morning. Sophia Krupinski placed 4th out of 65 runners with a personal record of 12 minutes and 38 seconds on a two-mile course.
In recognition of the critical importance of safety and security of students and staff, Brooke High School and Brooke Middle School ONLY, will be participating in an emergency evacuation drill in collaboration with Emergency Management System, Police, Fire, Rescue and Emergency services. This drill will occur on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 9:00am. Bruin drive will be closed to the public during this drill

A reminder for parents and students - Students' WinBooks for those NOT completing Advanced Math 7 or Algebra next year are going to be collected this week.
For 5th and 8th grade they will be collected on Wednesday, May 28th.
For 6th and 7th grade, WinBooks they will be collected on Thursday, May 29th.
Any 8th grader interested in playing for the Brooke Bruins Football Team in the upcoming 2025 season, MUST attend the Parent or Guardian/ Player meeting. The meeting will be held this Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 6pm in the Brooke High School Auditorium.
